Food
Even though the overall amount of food being produced is increasing, so is the population which means there is a higher demand for food all over the world which is causing an increase in prices instead of a decline.
Viewpoint 1- Food is beneficial to the nation and it growth.
Main Point 1- Helping build up smaller farms in order to provide for less fortunate nations.
Example- The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) had made available up to $200 million, as a first step, to boost to agricultural production in affected countries. The money supports increased production by smallholder, family farmers. It helps provide credit to purchase agricultural inputs, for seed distribution, and for seed multiplication by farmers’ organizations. IFAD provides assistance to help farmers increase staple food production, including basic grains and dairy products. It helps improve land fertility and sustainable land and water management
Main Point 2- Genetically modified foods
Example- GM foods have advantages like pest resistance, herbicide tolerance, disease tolerance, drought tolerance and more. Monsanto has soybeans which grows to not be affected by the weed-killer Round-up.
Main Point 3- Better nutrition in the food.
Example- Even though people claim that soil now a days is nutrient deficient, the food is becoming more nutritious. The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Institute for Plant Sciences produced a GM rice that contained higher-than-normal levels of vitamin A, a nutrient often deficient in the diets of people whose diet consists mostly of rice. Vitamin A deficiency can cause blindness.
Viewpoint 2- Food can cause damaging effects.
Main Point 1- Cramming animals in order to have more food.
Example- Animals are kept in smaller places where they eat, sleep, and pee which is altogether gross and against animal rights. The Tyson company keeps each chicken in a space 8 by 11 inches, or has a big area containing thousands of chickens.
Main Point 2- Genetically modified foods
Example- GM food can cause unexpected harm, create health problems, reduce effectiveness of pesticides, and transfer genes to non-target species. A laboratory studied how the pollen of corn had Bt toxins which kill monarch butterflies.
Main Point 3- Inhumane acts towards animals.
Example- Many different violent and evil actions occur behind the closed door of meat factories. Baby chicks that are male are immediately killed in a giant spinning machine that snaps their neck. Baby cows are sometimes fed the blood of their mothers which were slaughtered to "pass on the nutrients".
